Guédelon, nous bâtissons un château fort

Every day, in the forest of Guédelon, in the heart of an old quarry, workers build a 13th-century fortress before your very eyes. Quarrymen, stonecutters, masons, carpenters, blacksmiths, tile-makers, joiners, tailors, cartwrights, wheelwrights, painters, basket-makers, potters, gardeners... transform and enhance the stone, wood and earth on the site to reveal the secrets of the builders of the Middle Ages.
From season to season, Guédelon's workers take up this extraordinary challenge. The fortified enclosure, the timber-framed dwelling, the bedroom with its mural paintings, the kitchen and cellar, the shooting galleries with their imposing ribbed vaults, the chapel, half of the sentry walk... have all been built before the eyes of thousands of visitors who have come to see this site, the only one of its kind in the world.
In 2026, work will continue on the masonry of the imposing gateway between the two towers, with the construction of the portcullis and the eastern curtain wall.
