The Musée Départemental du Compagnonnage, a cultural site of the Département of Saône-et-Loire, presents Relever Notre-Dame: regards / gestes / savoirs, an exhibition paying tribute to the craftsmen and journeymen who, through their ancestral skills, shaped, restored and raised the cathedral.
On 15 April 2019, before the eyes of the entire world, this masterpiece of French heritage, a symbol of Gothic art, almost went up in flames. In the aftermath of the fire, an extraordinary project began, bringing together hundreds of talented people from all over the world: journeymen, craftsmen, architects and engineers... We invite you to relive this reconstruction through their stories, their actions and their passion.
Between tradition and modernity, discover how ancestral skills recognised by UNESCO, such as those of stonemasons and carpenters, continue to be passed on so that Notre-Dame can be reborn in all its splendour.
To make this exhibition accessible to all, a "mini-museum" section has been specially designed for children, allowing them to discover the secrets of the reconstruction in a fun and interactive way.
